Fort Wayne news and social commentary

Fort Wayne Partners in News: It's complicated By Dean Robinson Summit City Noise June 20, 2018

I have to give a shout out to Matt Leach in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Matt Leach is the chief meteorologist for WPTA-TV, which is Fort Wayne's ABC, NBC, My TV, and the CW affiliate station.

For Fathers Day 2018, Matt Leach published commentary on Facebook detailing his first conversation with his father regarding Matt being a gay man.

Matt says "My dad's first words back were, 'Well, that explains why you were so bad at sports growing up!' And then on a more serious note followed that up with 'I love you no matter what.'

"My dad is the kind of father any kid would be lucky to have, especially a gay kid.

"All across the country LGBT youth are shunned, kicked out of homes and driven to suicide because of the rejection and lack of support from not only friends, but most importantly their own flesh and blood."

I'm giving Matt Leach this video love because I loved everything he said in that Facebook post.

I don't know that Matt being gay was necessarily a secret.

When you don't know something about a public figure - especially their private life - that doesn't mean there's a secret being kept.

I love Matt Leach's social media post because I love it when good people can just be who they are without fear of being shunned or shamed or beat up because somebody else feels threatened over sexuality.

In Matt's Father's Day post, he says "I grew up in a very religious home and knew this subject would likely not be a welcome one."

But his dad was totally cool, 100 percent loving.

He just wishes Matt didn't suck so bad at sports.

That's all.

Matt Leach probably knows - just like me - that religion is used all the time to openly disparage homosexual people.

In Fort Wayne, you can go to WPTA's Partners in News radio station WOWO-AM when you want to hear how The Pat Miller Program uses religion to disparage the LGBT community on a regular basis.

This is WOWO host Pat Miller speaking at a TEA Party event back in 2012, trying to rally votes for Mitt Romney.

Do I think homosexuality is proper?

Absolutely not.

Do I think God abhors it?

Yes I do.

Do I think we ought to take them all out and shoot them?

No. No.

Pat Miller goes to the Holy Bible to push his religious social-political worldview because King James and the Vatican have already done all the heavy lifting.

When you go to the King James Holy Bible, the Book of Leviticus Chapter 18, Verse 22, Moses writes "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination."

"If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them." [Chapter 20 verse 13]

All Christian churches in the United States of America are derived from the Roman Catholic - or Universal - Church, whether they like to admit it or not.

The Roman Catholic Church uses the Holy Bible as the basis for the REAL rulebook that dictates Catholic tradition.

It's called the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Regarding the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the The Vatican says "Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that 'homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.'

"Under no circumstances can they be approved.

"Homosexual persons are called to chastity."

BUT the Catechism also says:

"They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity."

Pat Miller says "Do I think we ought to take them all out and shoot them?"

The Vatican says "Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided."

People who call themselves Catholic or Christian HAVE to believe that stuff. ALL of it. Every word.

Personally, I don't believe all that stuff even though I invoke the LORD several times a day, every day.

I just don't go for EVERYTHING everybody tells me - even if it IS in the Holy Bible.

I grew up in a Catholic household right here in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I don't consider myself a Christian even though I love Jesus as an archetype for divine human life.

When some people are talking about Jesus Christ, I'll be over here talking about Jesus.

I no longer consider myself a Catholic but I was baptized so if this Roman Catholic Church is really related to the Italian Mafia, there may be no way out for me.

In a follow-up comment on Facebook, Matt Leach writes "I also want to say I will never take for granted having supportive parents, living in a country that recognizes my rights and working for a company that lets me make posts like this on my work page!"

It sounds like WPTA and Quincy Media are more open-minded than their Partners in News at WOWO-AM.
